| 50 years on from the birth of the Telecaster and Les Paul, it seems that these classic guitars still overawe today's designers. Ken Parker is one of the few to escape from their spell. The Parker Artist looks radical, yet most of its innovation isn't apparent at first sight. The antithesis of its Fender and Gibson forebears, whose solid bodies were intended to minimize resonance, the Artist glories in its spruce body, which renders it a space-age cousin to the centuries-old acoustic guitar. Ken Parker's first electrics took what seemed like an age to come off the production line and its futuristic looks and high price mean mass-market acceptance is unlikely. Yet against the odds, Parker has demonstrated that the development of the electric guitar has not reached a dead end. |

| Parker Guitars is a manufacturer of lightweight modern
electric guitars and basses, started by Ken Parker in the early 90s.
Ken Parker began in a workshop in Rochester, New York, where he developed electric guitars, which stand out significantly from the design of previous electric guitars. Differences between his electric guitars and other include: * Thin, lightweight guitars that are usually made of lighter wood * use of composite materials in the body and the fingerboard, such as carbon fiber (as opposed to common wood guitar) * Use of electric and piezo-electric pickups with active electronics * ergonomic body design * Adjustable, locking bridge In 2004 the company was sold to the U.S. Music Corp (Washburn), based in Illinois . A series of models with cheap guitars are manufactured in Asia. Ken Parker is still a consultant the company. Since 2002, the Parker Fly Bass guitar was produced in 4 - and 5-string versions. These instruments are well balancedl. As with the electric guitar, the magnetic and piezoelectric pickups are mixed by blending. Since 2007, Parker is building also acoustic-electric guitars.
